Kanye's TV Show "Too Hardcore" for HBO?

MTV News is reporting that "The Black Larry David's" long-rumored HBO comedy series, which was to be modeled after Curb Your Enthusiasm, was a bit too hardcore for HBO's target demographic.

Writer and Producer Larry Charles was quoted as saying:

"It was really good, but ... I think it was too hard-core for HBO. Also, HBO's management shifted. HBO doesn't have a good track record when it comes to black shows, and I felt like that may have had something to do with it also," he told the site. "I don't see a lot of shows about that experience at all. This was very entertaining and we showed it to a lot of people. People gave it a very good response, and it seems to be on the shelf right now. The management has shifted at HBO so we're waiting to see."

Hmmm...  I think we all know what that really means, and I don't think I need to explain any further. Can't you just hear the HBO exec who shot it down:

"We gave them The Wire!  What more do they want?!? Okay, okay, we'll put some more rappers on Entourage for them to keep them temporarily satisfied.  Debbie, do we still have that Saigon guys number?"

The Wire? The Wire was written and produced by a White Guy. Don't give yourself too much credit for nothing you have done!

i believe he means the wire had a black cast.

Thank you Infamous. My point exactly.

It has nothing to do with the writers or producers being white or black, because that's not what I was getting at. It's about their abandonment of the culture after years of exploitation.

Regardless of white or black or asian or arab, that statement was in reference to corporate America or the "suits" pulling the switcheroo on hip hop culture.

For years they greenlit movies, television shows, etc that exploited OUR culture (no matter the race) for public consumption and profit. Now that they see hip hop falling out of favor (to a degree) they have abandoned their once love for the culture that made so many of them wealthy.

7-10 years ago they HAD to make shows like this. Not so much anymore.

So before you go and throw shots at me, anonymous, please read into the things I write a little deeper than what you just see on the surface.

Feel free to email me if you'd like to discuss a bit more in depth.

I think it has a lot less to do with race, And a lot more with HBO not being as cutting edge as they used to be. And that has a lot to do with the new head of HBO.

You would think they're TNT or TBS the way that HBO is acting now.

About the comic-book property "Preacher" getting shot down:

Preacher will not be coming to HBO after all. Garth Ennis' master work was slated for debut on HBO, but was met with strong opposition and eventually was stopped before much progress was made.

According to Mark Steven Johnson, who was responsible for Daredevil and Ghost Rider (but don't hold that against him):"We were budgeting and everything and it was getting really close to going….

But the new head of HBO felt it was just too dark and too violent and too controversial. Which, of course, is kind of the point! "It was a very faithful adaptation of the first few books, nearly word for word. They offered me the chance to redevelop it but I refused. I've learned my lesson on that front and I won't do it again. So I'm afraid it's dead at HBO. "I've heard someone is in the process of getting the rights to turn it into a feature film. I hope that happens."

funny u say email you ...because i know several artists who youve never emailed back after various...and i mean a copious amount of attempts to contact you.

as far as This kanye show..i doubt is was race..everyone in the business dislikes Kanye and rightfully so. especially after the camera incident..while we laughed it off..dude did blow a fuse. He is extremely cocky and makes unwarranted comments. i dunno if id wanna be part of that at HBO..although im surprised at the excuse being "hardcore"...the same station that has a show about a whore house and all that freaky shit on Real SEX..lol so maybe there is some hypocrisy goin on...who knows man?

I know this is off subject, but WHY DID THE ADMIN TAKE THE COMMENTS OFF FOR YOUNG BERG'S RECENT INCIDENT? He got smacked, no big deal. But don't silence the readers.

Why are you protecting the lil fella?

I am glad to see Andrew dropping some knowledge regarding some of these suits that have pimped the hip-hop culture for so long. That analysis is on point they don't see black and white they only see green. I'm sure Kanye's product is quality, but they don't want to have too much programming for the hip-hop generation and appear to be down.

If those artist didn't get their e-mails returned they might need to go back to the drawing board on their music. Gotta grind before you shine.
