So this morning I received an email from someone calling themself “Prometheus” claiming to have stolen Rhymefes’t iPod, which contained his upcoming album, El Che, in its entirety.
Personally, I thought the email was bullshit until I found two Mp3s attached at the bottom. I’d heard the Primo-produced “RNQ”, but the joint produced by Jazzy Jeff is brand new to me, and both seem to be CDQ.
I can’t imagine ‘Fest would be dumb enough to leave this shit just laying around, but I guess this type of stuff happens all the time. People are just ruthless in this day and age. That being said, I considered not posting it out of respect to ‘Fest, but you know what they say, if they don’t get it from me, they’re going to get it somewhere else.
Either way, someone lost. Who will respond first?
Here’s the letter “Prometheus” sent over this morning:
To whom it may concern:
Whoever reads this open letter, whether it be Allido Records, J Records or Rhymefest (I don't care), listen very carefully.
To all rappers and producers: DO NOT LEAVE YOUR iPOD OR LAPTOP UNATTENDED WHEN YOU ARE IN A PUBLIC PLACE. I will get to that in a second.
First of all, I am a huge fan, and I love your music. I'm one of those people who consider you to be a highly underrated artist, partly due to the wack-ass label you signed to and their lack of promotion, partly due to how lame the Hip-Hop industry is and partly due to your inconsistent record releases. But, I'm going to help you. They say an artist can only create great art through great suffering. I'm going to make you a better artist, and I do this out of love for your music.
I'm not going to say where or when (because then you may realize who I am), but you were in a public place recently with your iPod hooked up to a sound system playing music for people, and I caught you slipping. You actually walked away for 15 WHOLE MINUTES!!! Then, you forgot it!!! Wow. I grabbed MAD music off of your iPod. And what did I find? A ton of songs you recorded for EL CHE. Maybe you shouldn't label the songs soo obviously.
This shit sounds incredible. Actually, this shit is HOT FIRE!!! Why isn't this shit out, nigga? Don't answer that. It doesn't matter. I'm going to help you out, and here is why.
I bought BLUE COLLAR when it dropped. BLUE COLLAR and Busta's THE BIG BANG were the most noteworthy releases that year. And you didn't even go gold? How the fuck does that happen? Oh, my bad: J Records. But, I digress...
I went to some of your shows. I even traveled to see you perform when I could. Hot shit every single time, dude. You never disappoint. But, you would do shit on your MySpace that would build up a fan's anticipation, and then you wouldn't do shit! The EL CHE logo contest? You never said shit about a winner. The PLUGG CITY tour? My cousin submitted her info, and you never said shit about a winner. Who the fuck does that? But, hey: I'm a fan. You must have had a reason, right? Don't get me wrong: I'm not a Stan or some shit like that. I simply need you to do what you say you're going to do.
Then, you claim that EL CHE was coming out last year. Then, it was this year. More contrived industry inconsistency. I've heard some songs like "Angry Black Man on a Elevator" and "Real Nigga Quotes" and I even heard "Exodus" for the 3.5 seconds you put it on your MySpace. That shit sounds incredible. I watched the YouTube videos with the Just Blaze and Jazzy Jeff joints. What the fuck is up with that Jazzy Jeff project, dude?!? Either you or your label are some fucking liars regarding what the fuck is coming out, and I, for one, am tired of it. And, another thing: how the fuck are you going to come at Lupe Fiasco for his political views when you didn't even have an album out? Was you trying to get attention, nigga? Is that it? Attention for what? A new single? EL CHE??!!!?? I don't see a release date, my nigga. Where art thou, release date? Was it worth it? MAN IN THE MIRROR was dope as fuck. Why the fuck isn't somebody trying to figure out how to sell THAT shit?!? I'm confused by you music dudes, for real. I love your shit. I buy your shit. I heard you were working with Dr. Dre on DETOX. Are DETOX and EL CHE ever coming out, nigga? I NEED NEW MUSIC.
I got songs from your iPod. I'm going to leak a record from EL CHE every week until you drop a single or a video or some shit. The people have NO FUCKING IDEA how hot this shit sounds. Well, I'm going to show them. You had everything on your iPod. Even old, vintage shit. I'm gonna drop that, too. Until you or your weak-ass label keep your word and start dropping some fucking music. And, I'm not playing. I'm going to make you a better artist. I can't wait to see what you do.
Let's get started.
Rhymefest - BRING IT BACK (Produced by DJ Jazzy Jeff)
Rhymefest - RNQ (Produced by DJ Premier)
More to come...

This is just a stunt by yall know who but I'm glad to have these cuts though...Thanks,
lol is this forreal ...
LMAO..lets go! ima big rhymefest fan. hope this album bodes well
Creative publicity stunt or just an idiot trying to get attention? A shame if it's the latter or the two....
ok its painfully obvious that this is either rhymefest or someone from his camp doing this rt? or am i that cynical? nonetheless, the songs sound good!
lol a dude wrighting : I'm not a Stan or some shit like that
yeah i guess not your just a thief and a stalker
this dude takes a giant L
i hope rhymefest does not respond to this shit is the least
batman.hyped.dudes.up.hella.hard!!!
STAN STAN STAN STAN ALERT ALERT ALERT ALERT
THE SONGS IS RAW AS HELL THOUGH
absolute publicity stunt-use an anonymous source to air your grievances with your label..way too much info for somebody who just stole an ipod...I guess it worked, people at talking.
honestly honestly I see why the label wouldn't put this shit out its WACK flow and beats lyrics ok but don't leak the rest some stuff deserves to stay on the pod.....maybe he should get
Mikkey Halsted to ghost write something for him speaking of Halsted where is he and when is the mixtape dropping
I heard about the Dr. Dre shit from some interview on allhiphop.com but I didn't believe it. Dr. Dre actually knows who Rhymefest is? "Prometheus"? LOL! Sounds like this dude is on one. Very dramatic. Anyway, the music is very good. Keep it coming!
Prometheus,
I actually just broke my iPod. Will you jack someone elses and send it to me? I would be willing to reward you handsomely with 50 bones so apple doesn't cut my D for a new one.
Thanks
Either 1) this is really Rhymefest or 2) a really irritated superfan. How is this supposed to make Rhymefest a better artist? The music is hot. But this is a bit much. I will buy Fest's album when it comes out, no matter what. Especially if it sounds as good, if not better, than these cuts. WE SUPPORT YOU, FEST! Don't get mad at us for downloading, bruh. Real fans always buy good music.
I wonder what else is on his iPod
dude should create a blog
and just post all the random shit
rhymefest has saved
like those vanessa carlton songs
lol
I just want them Micheal Jackson samples that was on his mixtape.
people like that get punched in the face...i honestly dont think it was a publicity stunt cause shit like this could happen hella easily at a party,club,in-store, etc...
thats sad that dude is taking so much pride in takin someones bread and butter away like that and then have the nerve to say its on some tought love bs...dude is a hoe if he was really bout his shit, he would post who he was, cause goin on the net and posting "anonymously" like that is a bitch move, however u try to spin it...
These joints have been on the net for days... You cant even get an mp3 off an ipod like this dude claims.
Yes U can rip joints from Mp3's theres shit out there for that
because I'm in marketing, I'm hoping this is a marketing scheme.
if so, the letter is REALLY well thought out and written. good plan.
in the day of the blog and all the gimmicky promo schemes (a la AC - ATTACK OF THE BLOGS, which was brilliant in my opinion) ppl can smell the scent of a scheme a mile away, but still....
i love it. ppl buy into it. i love rhymefest and i'm gonna cop his stuff WHENEVER it decides to come out.
till then, i'll wait for "prometheus" to leak some more stuff and keep replaying BLUE COLLAR and PLUGG CITY - CITY ON MY BACK lol
Yeah, I don't know why you people think 'Fest was behind this, dude is over in Europe with Jigga - this is the last thing on his mind.
He straight got GOT. I'm trying to reach out to him for comment, but don't know how easy that's going to be.
I don't even know what to make of this. I confess, I too downloaded the songs and will probably download more if they happen to appear, but I will most definitely buy "El Che" when it's released!
What's worse about this though? Not only is this stuff out and around now, but if people do internet radio shows, because you know, anyone can do one nowadays if they have a good net connection, a program to broadcast, and a soundcard, this stuff could get aired that way. This could get interesting and not necessarily in a good way! I mean I guess on the good side it could raise awareness if people don't know who Rhymefest is, crying-ass shame if they don't, but on the flip side, if the entire album is on there it could spell trouble in the fact that it could get delayed, again, so all of us don't have the real deal. We've all seen that before haven't we?
"You can't even get an MP3 off an Ipod like this dude claims?"
There is a way to swutch your Ipod to its minimal state- a big fawking flash drive. Here you can simply drag-and-drop files and copy them. And they also sell software for this to for like 50 duckets.
sorry drew still dont buy it. just because dude is overseas doesnt mean anything...

FIRST ALBUM WAS DOPE!
now we want classic !!
totally bogus.
this REEKS of publicity stunt.
sorry drew.
and if fest didn't do it himself someone on his marketing team thunk this one up.
meh, whatever gets people talking. nice try fest.
Stan all the way. I don't buy this for a second, though I guess we can't know for sure until Fest speaks out. Dude sounds way too cocky/full of himself to be for real -- he's just trying to stir shit up.
That being said, I love the tracks. This album should be fire, even better than the last one.
If they had GadgetTrak ( www.gadgettrak.com) installed on the iPod they could track the thief when he plugged the thing into his computer.
hey andrew,
fsd is getting a lot of comments these days!
'Fest = Treated
Love Rhymefest.... i saw this song in his youtube vid a while back
Where is that tracklist from?
This dude is a Stan, and karma is a bitch..
Is this really news? I don't see AHH, HHG, talking about this trash. Who cares his iPod was stolen and "someone" wants to make him a better artist. To be better, first you have to be good. I look in the Rhymefest backpack and all I see is two items. 1.) His battle with Eminem 2.) His glorious Grammy Award and that's it. Rhymefest doesn't have the charismatic personality to be in the caliber of a Skyzoo, Joell Ortiz, or Crooked I, etc. He is a has been that got lucky on getting and hand out from his ole' pal Kanye who figured he owed him a co-sign and got him signed to Mark Ronson's label under J Records since he got Kanye some fat ass checks off of Jesus Walks. What's he should realize is that he's a background dude and be a songwriter and make those publishing checks. Dude got a face for radio.
damn fest
Listen to the Bring it Back lyrics and its obvious this is a stunt...I bet 'Fest can't get his album released
The song pretty much lays everything out, and includes all the points the letter hits on
"check your shorty ipod now look what he got"
"state of hip hop that really worries me"
"whats the value of a good song?"
"i apologize if it took long"
Coming next week from Prometheus: the Saigon album
Man, this shit is for real cause if you even knew 'Fest (like I do), then you know he would never fuck around with his art like this. Yall some smart dumb cats
i'm with everyone saying this is bullshit
I believe its a publicity stunt...
I believe that this is legit....bloggers and mp3 thieves will go to great lengths to find and steal your shit
i dont buy this for a second....if this guy wasn't from the rhymefest camp he would have leaked EVERYTHING he had. Clearly a ploy from fest or his camp.
publicity stunt.....the fact that he's in europe makes it all the more believable. but its still a stunt.
somebody also let fest know that lupe got at this idea first already.
I call bullshit on this... Someone named "Prometheus" after the Greek story where someone with that name steals fire (El Che) from the Gods (J Records) and gives it to mankind catches Rhymefest slipping with songs from El Che in his Ipod, lets him forget it, decides to steal it, and NO ONE says a word?
This shit is fiction. Not that i'm complaining though... I need some new Fest in my life.
lol, and a song a week? Nah...no stan with an unreleased album is that logical, respectful, or strategical.
honestly check out the dj... vinyl richie at myspace.com/yovinyl yeah thats me
I THINK DUNNY JUST SAID IT ALL...
Yo this is Fest, I just got to Belfast Ireland and logged on to see all this shit thats going down. Yall niggaz just don't fuckin know. I feel like my life is flashin infront of my fuckin eyes right now. It ain't like my album wasn't or ain't gonna come out. Fa real I been busy working on some TV shit with comedy central so I haven't finalized singles or nothin with the label yet. I just finished the show I was workin on and joined Mark Ronson on tour with JZ, then this. Anybody who knows me Knows I wouldn't do this to myself. Out of all these pretentious ass rappers I always tried to speak truth and never play myself with the gimmicks of other niggaz, I don't wanna get dropped, I don't want bad relationships with Allido or any of the producers or artist feat. on my album who didn't get paid would bring. I DIDN"T DO THIS! And none of my niggaz would either. I don't know who this cat is. But if one of yall out there is good with computers find this dude 4 he do damage to more then just me. I love the people that support me but I wouldnt release my own songs and potentially kill my record sells again, that ain't smart or cool. Please somebody find this nigga!
Further more, yall niggaz who up there dissen me, GET A FUCKIN LIFE! Nigga, I help more people then you could ever know, probbly somebody in yo fuckin family for all you know. I provide for my kids and always rep THE CHI. You ain't gotta like my shit, but gotdammit you will respect me as a man. Cuz at the end of the day I ain't no soft ass concious rapper that won't punch a nigga in the face. I can take constructive critiques like I always have. But some of that hatin for no reason ain't called for. I never went out and talked about me and DRE or writing for the detox, thats shit that other niggaz did. I ain't no media whore. I make music cuz I love it. I make money without sellin my soul cuz I know how. Whoever can't respect that can keep riding your favorite radio rappers dick until it fall off in yo faggot ass!
and cue the "victim speach". Right on time Fest. Nobody is complaining about the music. But you or your label felt that El Che wasn't buzzin right. This ain't no accident.Somebody let the music go.
point blank sites like this shouldnt even support this stuff. As much as niggas be saying we're supporting chicago artist, your hurting Fest by even giving the links more pub cause i honestly dont see it on any other site. Support real artist stop helping out the niggas who trying to bring us down
Stop your whinin.
Coming next week from Prometheus: the Saigon album
^^^
followed by m.o.p's album from rocafella and g-unit. he also has raekwon's only built pt. 2
Ok so big deal "Rhymefest" logged on to cop a plea and state it wasn't a self mutilated action to boost his market awareness. We understand you got mouths to feed. But you adding fuel to the fire by talking the way you talking. Punching dudes in the face and what not, what's that going to solve? Yes it's your music and you don't want to burn unnecessary bridges with label staff and artist features. But do yourself a favor and shut-up. You exposing yourself on how weak you are right now. Have your PR step in and represent you. Come up with a plan. You jumpin' online to show how "down to earth" or humble you are to speak for yourself is not going to solve the problem of your music leaking. Recommendation if I may (this one's for free): Record more music...However, the way you're complaining about how your life is flashing before your eyes only states that this dude has really buckled your ass and those songs were your final cut for El Che and the "others" that didn't make the cut is garbage and you don't have anything left up your sleeve in the vault to mix or redo simply put...not worth the time. If you was crazy enough to have your entire El Che catalogue on your iPod then it's your fault, you got pwned i'm sure you got studio backups but what is that going to do? I know you want peoples input and prospective on your work but be selective and cautious next time you want to play your music in an unsecured location. I don't care if it's at your home. Your music is valuable and it's suppose to setup/secure your family future, right? I'll sleep with that shit handcuffed to my wrist like the hope diamond. And you say your camp wouldn't do it. How do you know??? I ain't trying to flame Fest but you wasn't smart on this one dude. As far as someone tracking down this thief. He's already caught cause he's spoken out. He wants attention and now he's gotten more than what he's bargained for. Good luck on finding him. I would help but bounty hunter certificate just expired /sarcasm. Peace.
Where did the email come from? If you have the original, it can probably be traced with some effort
So is plugg city actually fest?
damn fest that was fucking stupid off you. leave your iPod full of your new album there in the public. Fuck i'm sorry for you
This is a publicity stunt and here's why. As a former Apple Tech Support Agent I'm keying in on the phrase I took songs off of your iPod. Not only am I keying in on that phrase I'm also keying in on the time limit of which he claimed was provided to do it. For those of you who feel like reading logic on this topic please continue to read ahead.
First off....you can NOT pull music off anyone's iPod. An iPod can receive information, not give it back. However, if you know how to locate the music folder on the iPod you can snatch music from THAT folder. Here's how. You go to the tools menu in an open folder window. Go to Folder Options/View and choose Show Hidden Files and Folders, press apply and then OK. Once that is chosen locate the iPod icon on your My Computer screen and click on it. Then Click on iPod_Control and then Music. Welcome to your iPod library where you can in fact extract music to your desktop or another folder on your computer. One problem though....and here's where dude fucked up. THEY ARE NOT LABELED AS YOU HAVE THEM IN iTUNES!!!!! The folders themselves have a letter and double digits in this case mine is F00 and they raise in number from there. When you click on the folder to see the contents in them, the songs themselves ARE LABELED AS LETTERS. In this case one of mine are JIAG.mp3. Now you could possibly get it to read the artist name, and maybe even the track number(in this case it would have read Rhymefest track 13) but not the title of the track. You have to go through the entire library to figure out what each track is. Bottom line.....that shit would take MORE than 15 minutes. Dude didn't get shit off the iPod, he would have had to take the fucking LAPTOP!! And since that didn't happen.....guess what? The leakier is the OWNER of the laptop because I guarantee he didn't know HOW to pull shit off the iPod in that manner. Hell....even if he saw the name of the artist and album, HE WOULD HAVE TO MAKE GUESSWORK OF THE TITLE OF EACH TRACK!!! Sorry.....fail. Good try though Fest.
On the real Lunch box I for one hope you're right, about that I pod stuff.Honestly I don't know if I believe that myself. I been thinking and this dude released two songs that were relatively easy to get, one was already on the net anyway. But to suggest that I'm harming myself is outrageous. I aint that thirsty homey. I got a lot of shit poppin that people don't see. and with all the artist that have been dropped from J records recently I managed to survive. And thats with no music or album release in 2 years. I'm happy and I also think and hope that this is a hoax. But don't get it twisted. I ain't no publicity stunt type dude. Peace I'm watching
Fest, hook up your iPod and see if I'm kidding about that process. I aint got one reason to lie to you. But know what I know about the process, how is it supposed to look? If you aint fucking yourself on this one cool. But I saw no other explanation.
To further explain, if he was able to snatch anything from an iPod he would need recording software(wavelab, acid, goldwave) installed on your laptop and play out each song, capture it as a wav, convert it to a mp3 and THEN send it to a device of some sort that could transport files(flash drive etc.) Now being that this process as well as the other one I already explained takes longer than 15 minutes, if(and I say this if we really see tracks of yours leaked) IF he drops more tracks of yours, it's someone in your camp. 15 minutes is not time enough to pull something like that off and be successful. He would have either encountered someone coming back and hearing him do what he was doing, OR you yourself. So watch your people.
"Ipod Acess" costs $20 and is extremely quick & easy to use, and you can see music as it's labeled of course...LOL this program was recommended to me on the sly BY an Apple Tech
By any rate, dude walking around with a fucking Mac ready software to install on a Windows laptop to extract files in highly unlikely. Now is he saying he stole the iPod itself or stole songs off that iPod in 15 minutes?
'Fest lost his iPod, so if it's true, this guy probably has it still.
thats sum fucked up shit
Lunchbox knows NOTHING. Shut up about "knowing" anything.
http://www.fadingred.org/senuti/
"Senuti is a simple Mac OS X application for transferring songs from your iPod back to your computer."
No messing with the folder labeling. No "searching" for SHIT. It shows up just like in iTunes. Give me your iPod and 15, I'll have that shit copied off in no time.
-an actual Apple tech
Troyal.. NO DOUBT!
lunchbox is on some genius bar rejection tape shit...
There have been numerous ways to get mp3's off ipods for years.. i should know, i've been doing it since i got my 1st gen in 2001.. ;)
This ish is fire..
lunchbox, dude said fest walked away then forgot it. so i thought he just took the ipod.
all in all tho, i hope this is a stunt for fest's camp to put some pressure on the label. if not, then how could you not feel bad for homie?
but if fest is coming online saying he had nothing to do with it, you gotta believe the man.
