Video: S.O.U.L. Purpose - "Lesson A" (Cool Kids Diss)

This guy, SOUL Purpose, is back with a no budget video for his desperate attempt at stardom with his less-than-stellar diss track, "Lesson A". Does he really think he's going to get put on by dissing the Cool Kids and Jay Electronica? Why didn't he just go after URB Magazine as a whole?

I like how he calls out The Cool Kids for biting The Pack's style, when he clearly bit Jim Jones and Juelz Santana with the stupid scarf over the head thing. Next!

I dont think he's attempting stardom. He's just calling it how it is.

If he's calling it how it is, then how is he going to diss Jay Electronica for rapping about spaceships and what not? Kool Keith made a full fucking album about being lost in space almost 10 years ago - why doesn't he call Keith out for that?

I agree there has to be a ying and a yang, but this is incredibly stupid. It reeks of desperation.

man, did you listen to the track? the beat isn't that great, and the rhymes are def lacking! this dude has no character, no charisma and he's supposed to be the poster child for "real hip hop"? c'mon now, this is a gimmick as much as anything else out there.... to add insult to injury, the first time you hear of him, it's dissing another artist as opposed to coming out on his own shit and standing on his own two? newsflash: it's not hard to write a diss song.

Andrew Barber said...

Thank you Nico. I couldn't have said it any better.

His diss song is a gimmick and a half! Have you heard of this guy prior to this song? Will you hear of him after?

And as my buddy Alex over at Rubyhornet.com pointed out, he also takes a little jab at Naledge from Kidz In The Hall too.

AB I love the Fake Shore Drive. I'm fromthe Go but living in the ATL for the last 15 yrs so you keep me up on what's going on back home. Appreciate it. That said, real talk y'all don't really know Mazzi or his connections to hip hop like that. S.O.U.L. Purpose has been doing they thing about as long as Rubber Room. Mazzi is a NY dude that is fed with the fads that is coming out of hiphop now. I first met him at a Def Jam brunch for the BET hip Hop Awards and dude is mad cool. The video is low budget but that's HIP HOP. No different than Take It EZ. I ain't into all this hipster bull either! It's taking over the ATL on some Andre 3000 clone type ish!!! Where is the originality in Chicago Hip Hop anymore!!!! When Dem Dare, Chi Rock, etc. was on the scene among other crews ChicaGO had our own thing poppin'! What's good?

Chicagorilla, I respect your points and views, but let me ask you a question: what about the Cool Kids is unoriginal? In my opinion, they are one of the most original groups of the last few years to come out with a completely different style and look. If other rappers choose to jump on board and "Swagger jack" them, making it an annoying trend, well, then that's not their fault.

As far as originality points are concerned:

The Cool Kids > SOUL Purpose

I don't get down with the Cool Kids like that but this Mazzi dude need to sit his down. If you gonna step up, at least be on somethin. This right here is only jealousy. Keep gettin yo money Cool Kids.If they hatin, you obviously on the right track. Fuck these dudes. Mazzi/Soul Purpose/Whatever they name is.......Get a fuckin Life.

Oh...and you just lost any hope of ever gettin the Chicago market. Dumbasses.

AB: The point of originality is debatable. I can't fully say cats is biting Cool Kids. I will say that I think in today's climate it is easy to misconstrue something different as dope especially when you compare it to the mainstream BS on WGCI and Power 92! With that said all this 80's Babies crap is for the birds. I ain't knocking the hustle but at the same time I can't co-sign bruhs rocking tight pants and fluorescent colors like that. Duran Duran wants their swag back LOL!!!!

there are so many new york lames to hate on before you start trying to take shots at Chi. like cmon..dude couldve done a dipset diss YEARS ago if it was about tight jeans and fads.

motherfuckers always wanna take shot at Chicago dudes...they think its an easy knock.

Cool Kids are dope. im not really into Jay Electronica..havent heard enough. looks like Mazzi is doing these guys a favor..now people will want to be better acquainted.

that little slick line at the end about another kid from Chi. dont say Chi like that..like youre condescending. in Chi cats dont battle rap. they beat niggaz the fuck up.

as for biting...aint the beat damn near a Primo bite? i know the scratches are..and the samples been used before...get original before you start claiming other dudes arent

Im happy someone had the gull enough to say the cool kids suck.
I think chuck's beats are dope.
But the whole 80's themed shit is insane.Being 25 years of age myself i was 6 in 89 and all's i knew about the 80's was the fat boys and donnie simpson. Mikey is what? 19, which would make it impossible for him to recall 80's throwbacks. Honestly, i cant knock a bruh for trying to be unique. But i see that this shit is kind of fishy. Wether or not they have tight pants or whatever shit they sposedly made hot ... I COULD GIVE A FUCK !!! Honestly every rapper has a gimmick. Hustler, baller, pimp, gangsta, even college kid (what up kidz in the hall). It's a consumers market , and you as the consumer have the right to pass up certain taste for music if you dont like it . I wish nothing but success to all my fellow emcee's and producers chasing the road to whatever. But all this dick in the booty hating has got to come to a halt...Bah lee Dat
